Sennelier Oil Sticks

Sennelier oil sticks are formulated with high quality oil paint with some of the oil being replaced with a natural mineral wax, producing a solid stick of oil colour. There are fifty five different colours available in 38ml oil stick. They are manufactured with pigments which are carefully selected for their high concentration of colour and a strong resistance to yellowing over time. This results in a medium which has excellent lightfastness and intensity of colour.

The paint may be applied directly onto traditional surfaces which are commonly used for oil painting including stretched canvas, canvas boards, paper and laminated panels.

To use Sennelier oil sticks the solid paint can be applied at a maximum thickness of 1mm. Individual Layers of paint may be overlapped - using similar techniques conventional oil painting. It can also be thinned with white spirit or turpentine if necessary allowing a glazing effect to be produced.

Before the oil stick is used there will be a thin film on the surface which should be removed. After a few days of not using the stick a new film will form. The sticks can be stored for a prolonged period of time and needs no special consideration, besides keeping them away from sources of heat, such as radiators.

Paint which has been applied will dry within two to five days dependant upon the thickness which has been applied, temperature and humidity. After the paint has dried can be varnished in the same way as traditional oil paints with a oil finishing varnish, following a drying period of at least six months.
