The Tavistock Group of Artists was formed in 1953 by Tavistock Grammar School Art Mistress Norna Beadle and Senior Mistress Margery Nicol. The first members included Geoffrey Clark, Victor Gregory, Peter Holwill, Micky Kingdon , Dorothy Ward and Anne Spooner. They were later joined by Margery Kelly, Lena Nicol, Helen Rowett and Claire Ward. The first exhibitions were held in the Council Chamber and Grenofen Barn.

Since 1964 the annual exhibition has been held in the Town Hall. The aim of the group is to stimulate interest in art, to provide facilities for pursuing this interest, both practical and theoretical at all levels from amateur to professional. Membership is open to all artists and leisure painters living within a 20 mile radius of Tavistock.

Membership costs £25 per year and is payable during the exhibition or on enrolment evening in September at Kingdon House, Tavistock, opposite the Ordulph Arms.

Meetings begin in September at Kingdon House and continue through to the end of April. Evening meetings include demonstrations, lectures and practical sessions.

Ely Art Society meet on the second Friday of each month at the Methodist Hall Ely at 7.30 pm. We have demonstrations each month by well known artists. This month (July) we have Brian Ryder. August is our Exhibition (see Related Links below for details) and September we have Julie King demonstrating Flowers in watercolour.
